Pool Trick Shots Every Amateur Should Be Well-Versed With

The pool is a well-known and versatile cue sport offering endless entertainment opportunities. It is great for game nights, house parties, etc. Besides being a constant source of competition and entertainment, the pool game offers excellent networking and bonding opportunities. The game is played on a physical pool table or online.

In a game of pool, you can demonstrate your skills of accuracy, a basic understanding of physics and math, strategy, and critical thinking. Most amateur 8 ball pool players are constantly seeking ways to up their game.

Here are some pool trick shots to help you become better at your game.

3 and 3 with pacer

You must ensure to make the shot without the pacer ball. The two-ball combination must be set with one ball on the spot, and the other must be frozen. Their centers must be lined up towards the corner pocket. Also, the tangent line must be set up to the other corner. Then, find the cue ball position where you can make the shot consistently.

When this part of the shot goes, try it with the pacer ball. You need to hit the second part of the shot from the cue ball position. Then, freeze the pacer ball to it lined up with the corner pocket. Back the cue ball off approximately half diamond and then hit a slow stop shot, so the cue ball does not move after you have sent the pacer on its way. It would be best to practice getting the speed correct, so the pacer gets to the corner and not anywhere else on the pool table.

The most challenging part of this shot is lining up and executing the shot’s second part so that the combined ball beats the pacer.

Mastering this shot will take practice.

Machine gun 1

To play the machine gun 1 shot, players need to line the object balls in a row and ensure they’re a width away from the cushion. The objective is to fire the cue ball between the cushion and the balls. While the ball is traveling, you must hit each one of the object balls, and this will make the machine gun sound.

Butterfly shot

For the butterfly shot, you must place the cue ball on the third diamond line in the table’s center and then align the two center balls toward the side pockets. Again, the back edges must be even with the third diamond line.
Then, place the balls in a way that the balls are backward in line with the short rail point of the corner pockets. According to the throw, you might have to move this farther up the short rail.

It would be best if you placed the other balls, so they correctly align with the short rail. Again, depending on the throw, you might have to move the balls farther up the short rail of their corner pockets.

It would be best to place the cue ball in the table’s center and then split them down in the middle. Then, you can dress it up by shooting the ball while looking away. But first, pay attention to find out what you have missed and make the necessary adjustments to suit your playing conditions.

Blooming flower shot

To the side of the pocket, two object balls are one ball width away. Between those balls, there’s a gap, and between the next two, there’s about ¼ to ⅛ inch. So keeping the fifth frozen ball on the table’s centerline would be best.

Although the line between the non-frozen balls is not parallel, it is aligned outside the far side pocket.
The cue ball will be in the table’s center for this shot. The frozen balls are aligned to the short rail side.

The alignment might change depending on the amount of throw on the balls. It would be best if you aimed to hit the fifth ball. You can also use a draw, or a center hit may work.

Backward bank shot

You must correctly set up the object balls for the backward bank short. Then, they are frozen to the cushion and each other while splitting the third diamond. If you are up for a challenge, you can use a single object ball and freeze the ball next to the point of the side pocket.

At the second diamond on the other side, the cue ball is frozen, and players must aim for a ½ ball hit on the third ball with maximum left and a ½ tip of the top. However, this might be unnecessary.

It would be best to spin the cue ball so everything can be transferred to the third ball. Then, with practice, you can adjust your aim and get better. However, this shot depends on the spin.

The Bottom Line

These are some pool trick shots amateur players must be well-versed with. Using these trick shots, you can beat your opponent. You can start practicing these shots by engaging in online pool games or challenging your friend to compete on a physical pool table.

These shots will help you master the game in no time. As you practice to perfect these trick shots, you can be assured of getting more points than your opponents. Moreover, you must be careful when playing the breaking shot and try to pocket some balls to stay ahead of your opponent. So install the pool game application and start practicing the game.
