Almost every day you can find spam emails in your email inbox. Intelligent filters from the mail providers are actually supposed to prevent this, but emails still make it into the inbox from time to time.
The natural reflex would now be to simply delete these emails, which is obvious since you are not interested in the content of these emails. In addition, attempts are made to distribute malware using such emails by enticing the reader to click on an attachment or a link.
If you simply delete these emails, this is not necessarily the best solution and it is certainly not advisable. You deprive your spam filter of the opportunity to continue training. You can tell that the filter is already well trained by looking at the contents of the spam email folder. So that it can continue to recognize the emails that have ended up in your inbox in the future, you should mark them as spam and then move them to the spam folder. Depending on the mail provider, the move can be done simply using “drag and drop” or the email must be moved using a button.
The spam filter will then check the contents of the corresponding email and learn that emails of this type or from this sender are spam. The result is that the filter will better recognize these emails in the future and automatically move them to the spam folder.
In this context, you should also train the filter in reverse. So you should also regularly check the emails in the spam folder to see whether an email that is okay has been filtered out. These emails can also be moved to the normal inbox using a button or “drag and drop”. In this way, the filter learns that, for example, this sender does not pose a threat and that their emails are allowed in the inbox.
